INTRODUCTION TO GOVERNMENT OPEN DATA

Open data refers to government data that can be freely used, shared and reused by citizens, public or private sector agencies for any purpose. It acts as a driving force in people-oriented government initiatives. The implementation of open data can improve the quality and transparency of government service delivery through accurate, fast and relevant data sharing. In addition, it can also increase productivity and the national economy through new industries/innovations with the involvement of citizens and the business community.

The Public Sector Open Data Portal (DTSA) which is www.data.gov.my was developed in 2014 and has received an Open Data rating at the international level at the 41st position out of 86 countries. The DTSA portal makes open government data accessible centrally from official sources.
